David Archibald's "The Happiest Camper in Ontario" Concert Tour

As part of our 125th anniversary, Ontario Parks is excited to announce a concert tour of 30 parks across the province with singer-songwriter David Archibald.

David will be performing five new songs this summer that he wrote to celebrate the anniversary!

Listen to David’s newest song, “The Happiest Camper in Ontario,” written especially for this summer’s concert tour.

David’s animated and interactive performances in provincial and national parks celebrate the great diversity of Canada’s natural and cultural history. Throughout his career, he has performed for more than 40,000 park visitors.

David’s Park songs The album has become a camper favorite. Includes songs about turtles, butterflies, vultures, poison ivy, and pirates.

Fun fact: David produced pop star Avril Lavigne’s first recording.

David has also written and acted in Sesame Street in New York and CBC Mister. Get dressed.

David’s musicals have been professionally produced throughout the country. He has won awards for his composition and musical direction workshops.

We asked David to share his thoughts on this year’s concert tour:

“Should I bring my public address system?” I asked the friendly park employee.

“No, no. We have speakers,” he said.

It was the 25th anniversary of Bon Echo Provincial Park. It was 1989. They asked me to write a song for the big celebration. I would present it in the park’s beautiful amphitheater. Exciting times. New song. Great occasion. My first performance in a provincial park.

Well, everything went well, although it was almost an “unplugged” affair, as the speakers we referred to earlier were the tiny light green ones placed on the side of the park’s Bell & Howell movie projector.

I had no idea that I would spend a good portion of the next 30 summers performing across the province, singing in amphitheaters and picnic shelters, sleeping in my trusty blue tent. What really got the ball rolling was 1993’s “Jim and Dave’s Awesome Supernatural Camping Adventure,” written and performed with my musical friend James Gordon to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Ontario Parks.

Now, 25 years later, I am thrilled to embark on this grand tour of 30 parks to help celebrate the 125th anniversary of Ontario Parks. It’s fantastic work! I’ll be releasing five new songs, including “The Happiest Camper in Ontario,” and also returning to old favorites like “Five Great Lakes,” “Poison Ivy,” and “The Ballad of Pirate Bill.”

Ontario’s vast network of provincial parks is unparalleled in beauty and diversity, and I am proud to be a part of this summer’s festivities. See you at the amphitheater!
