Spectacular events will be taking place in Ontario parks throughout March. One of them takes flight in Presqu’ile Provincial Park on March 18 and 19, 2023.
Is he 45th anniversary of Waterfowl Weekendorganized by park staff and volunteers from the Friends of Presqu’ile Provincial Park.
Make plans to witness one of the best waterfowl migrations in the world!
Presqu’ile is one of the best places in the world to see this mass March migration. The prominent L-shaped peninsula in Lake Ontario protects Presqu’ile Bay, near the town of Brighton, about two hours east of Toronto.
Tens of thousands of swans, geese and ducks stop in the protected areas of Presqu’ile Bay to rest and feed before moving to nesting areas further north and west.
Ring-necked ducks are just one of the many duck species that can be seen in Presqu’ile in March.
The park is fantastic for photography at any time of the year. In late winter, water hitting ice along the coast can create cold ice volcanoes. This is a unique, short-lived photo opportunity that you may take advantage of during your visit in March.
Another panoramic view offered to visitors is one of the oldest lighthouses on the Great Lakes, built in 1840. It is especially magical at sunrise or sunset.
Bring your binoculars, if you have a pair. Otherwise, staff and volunteers will set up telescopes at the best viewing spots to help you identify nearly 25 different species of waterfowl.
Volunteer naturalists will be stationed at various viewing stations around the park from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm to help you find and observe the ducks and other waterfowl.
Visit the Lighthouse Interpretive Center to see duck-themed exhibits, kids’ activities, and more!
The Friends of Presqu’ile Park will be hosting a barbecue where lunches, hot drinks and snacks can be purchased starting at 11:00 am and their Lighthouse gift shop will also be open throughout the weekend.
