Over the past few years, camping at Ontario Parks has grown steadily from 4.3 million camping nights booked in 2014 to more than 6.6 million camping nights booked in 2021.
With bookings on the rise, we want to ensure more Ontarians can enjoy camping at some of our most popular parks during our busy summer season.
To help connect more campers to campsites at their favorite parks, we’re reducing the maximum length of stay at select parks between July 1 and the Saturday of the Labor Day long weekend.
Why are we making the change?
We’ve heard from countless visitors how frustrating it can be to miss out on a summer camping reservation. With reservations in high demand, it can be difficult to get a campsite at some of our park campgrounds.
With this change, we give more people the opportunity to go camping. Reducing the maximum length of stay at some of our parks will help give more people the opportunity to camp and experience Ontario parks.
This is what is changing
In select parks, we will reduce the maximum length of stay from 23 nights to seven or 14 nights for campgrounds during our busiest camping season, beginning in 2023.
The reduced maximum length of stay applies to travel between 1st of July and Saturday of the Labor Day long weekend. Outside of these dates the maximum stay will be 23 nights.
Book five months in advance? Don’t worry. When you book your July stay in February, this change will go into effect.
Note: This change will not affect backcountry camping or covered accommodations.

What about people who want to camp longer?
We understand that this change may be disappointing for those who typically enjoy camping for longer periods of time. We want to give more people the opportunity to camp and make their own memories in our parks.
If you prefer a longer stay, try:
- visiting one of the many parks with a maximum stay of 23 nights
- road trip from park to park
- Book a stay out of season when the maximum returns to 23 nights.
